St Andrew’s Church and Wycliffe

Supporting David Raymond
St Andrew’s began supporting Wycliffe Bible Translators in 2010. At first this was personal support for David Raymond, a member at St Andrew’s, who began working for Wycliffe. He works from home and is involved with complex scripts for minority languages which aren’t catered for by regular computer systems.

The Husa Translation Project
In 2013-14 Wycliffe was St Andrew’s main mission focus.  We learned about, prayed and raised money for the Husa Project – the translation of the New Testament into a language for a people group in South East Asia. Translation takes many years, and the project was nearing completion when we became involved. We had the joy of being able to raise more than £10,000 (chiefly through some very pleasant social events) – sufficient to cover the costs of the first print run of the completed New Testament.  We also had the privilege of several visits from John and Lois Severn who worked on the project from start to finish: their stories and wisdom expanded our horizons and our understanding of the importance of having the Bible in accurate and understandable language for people all around the world.

Ongoing support
Since then St Andrew’s has continued with financial support for Wycliffe’s work in general and David in particular, although he has now moved to Cambridgeshire.  Many members of the church receive David’s newsletter, and a smaller group pray more regularly for him and his wife, Elizabeth.

More information
You can find out more about Wycliffe Bible Translators by going to their website https://www.wycliffe.org.uk

in the language of their hearts.
