The Sheep Field
The small, stone-walled, gated field, down from the church and opposite St Andrew’s Church Centre, is locally known as the Sheep Field. This ancient field is a perfect place for church picnics, and now also a beautiful and useful community garden.
Back in 2011 Neil Foster, a member of the congregation, decided to clear the weeds and nettles from the edge of the field, making it safer for children to play in the field. Then he began to grow vegetables in the cleared border, which were then offered to church members in return for donations to the local YMCA as Neil was chairman of the board of directors of YMCA Clevedon at the time. Everyone enjoyed the freshly pulled vegetables, and the YMCA benefited from the donations.
Whilst preparing the ground and sowing the seeds Neil has enjoyed the company of the members of Andrew House, a base in Clevedon for giving support to men who are working their way back into the community from addiction. (Andrew House is also one of the "Missions" supported financially and in other ways by the congregation of St Andrew's Church - see Mission Support in the website.)
During 2012 Neil grew a large range of different flowering plants which repeated all the colours of the rainbow. The results were marvellous!

The Sheep Field field has also been used by members of the YMCA for supporting and teaching young and disabled children outdoor skills, the culmination of which was the installation of "Jubilee Bench" in 2012, pictured above.
