Please note there is a collection container in St Andrew's Church porch for
non-perishable, in-date food items, with a list of
what is currently most needed by
Clevedon Food Bank.

Clevedon Foodbank is the 187th Foodbank under the umbrella of the Trussell Trust, and with the support of Churches Together in Clevedon (CTiC) has become a registered charity providing emergency food supplies in the Clevedon area for people who find themselves in a time of difficulty. The Clevedon Foodbank began operating 11th May 2012. Although they had a slow start they are now receiving 1-3 requests each session.

Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. Trussell Trust Foodbanks aim to supply a minimum of three days emergency food and general support to people experiencing a crisis in the UK. A simple box of basic food stuffs can make a big difference.

All the Clevedon Foodbank food is donated by the public via schools, churches, super-markets, businesses and private individuals. Only non-perishable, in-date food is accepted by the Foodbank, and the donations are then sorted by volunteers. Clients receive three days supply of nutritionally balanced food. The volunteers at the Foodbanks will also make time to chat and to signpost clients to other helpful services.

Care professionals, such as doctors, health visitors and social workers, as well Citizen’s Advice Bureau and police identify people in crisis, and issue them with a foodbank voucher. Foodbank clients bring their voucher to a foodbank centre where it can be redeemed for emergency food.

The Foodbank is so far staffed solely by volunteers from seven Clevedon churches. All goods given away at the Foodbank are being donated by the people of Clevedon. There are drop-off points for food donations in the churches and also at the Changing Lives Shop in Kenn Road.

Comments from families who have received groceries from the Foodbank:

’I cannot understand why people who do not know me or my children are happy to give this food to us. We are truly grateful’.

‘As we are moving home our benefits have been stopped until we can inform them of our new address’.

Watch out for further news of the Clevedon Foodbank – the support so far has been fantastic.
