Until 1825 St Andrew's Church had a peal of 5 bells, one of which now stands in the porch. Subsequently three of the bells were sold to St Mary Redcliffe in Bristol. In 1925 a Miss M.E. Jenkins presented seven new bells to make up the fine new peal of eight which now hang in the belfry, awaiting a band of ringers to unleash their melodious call. They are popular with visiting bands during the week and it is possible for four ringers to produce an acceptable 'touch' but if only three or fewer appear on a Sunday, then they can only be chimed. Organist Alan Fish has been able to transpose some hymn tunes based on the particular notes of our bells.

The present Tower Captain Phillipa James now has the responsiblity of organising the ringers, following in the footsteps of her late father Victor James.

We have a growing number of bell ringers and a full band of ringers is normally available for weddings and other occasions.

We would love to arrange an opportunity for you to ring our bells, so if you are interested, please email the St Andrew's church wardens on
stawards.clevedon@yahoo.co.uk
